Bermondsey Larder, Bermondsey
Bermondsey Larder is located in bustling Bermondsey, minutes from the vibrant Maltby Street, and it has quickly become one of my go to places to recommend to people looking for somewhere to eat in the SE1 area.
It seems that everything Robin Gill does is just excellent. I was incredibly sad when The Dairy shut in Clapham, somewhere that I’d longed after in my early days in London, and enjoyed in my later years in London - and always conveniently close to me which made it even better! Thankfully, Bermondsey Larder is filling that void with many of The Dairy team driving this venture to be one of the best places in London to eat.
Located within a very cool co-working space - which also recently held a Sofar Sounds - this restaurant brings cool London vibes tenfold. With low lighting, calm music and an incredibly nice, friendly (and well dressed) team you immediately feel welcome.
One of the pulls for me is the incredible natural wine list - curated a lot by Alessandra Tasca who is a natural wine enthusiast and also hosts natural wine lessons - as it’s one of the best I’ve seen in London. The options are vast, but yet curated, and the team are on hand to recommend some brilliant ones, catering to each and every budget. We sampled some great orange wines and rose (highlighting how a dark rose doesn’t mean it’s sweet, something I am quite passionate about!). TWhat I can recommend is to tell them what you like, your budget and let them guide you - they really are experts in their field and they will probably recommend something you’d perhaps not have chosen.
Now, food wise. WOW. The seasonal menu is serving up some of the best food in SE London, with a range of dishes which regularly change depending on what is in season. They also offer lunch menus during the week for £20 for two courses, and a tasting menu on Sundays.
Despite the menu changing - and luckily for those of you who choose to venture here - their beef tartare is on the menu seemingly all the time. This is one of the best things I have ever eaten - in fact, after we’d finished our dessert, we ordered another because it simply had to be eaten again.
For the main courses, expect flavour bursts executed with total skills from the team. We had lamb - and, as expected, it was cooked to perfection.
This is a great place for all occasions; whether that’s date night, a dinner with friends or somewhere to take your family when they visit. You can guarantee exceptional food, a great atmosphere and wine list to die for.
Price wise it’s very reasonable, and you can spend as much or as little as you like depending on your wine choices.
I hope you enjoy your visit!
