Guess who’s back...back again.
It’s been a long time since I’ve blogged anything on here - I guess you could say I’ve been lazy, and actually in part you’d be completely right. I think anyone who blogs on the side, or as a full-time career to be honest, will confirm it’s definitely a labour of love. Mustering up the energy to come home after a 9/10 hour day, to open yet another screen, to write yet more content...I must say, I’ve been following more of a “pass me the wine” routine in the last year.
But it’s not totally down to being lazy. This blog has been a London based blog for many years, focusing on the city and where to eat, drink...date. You’ve got to love the things you write about right? Well I certainly think so.
And truthfully, I’ve not been loving London much in the last 12-18 months. I’ve found the city isolating and lonely, I’ve found the rat race draining to the point of physical and mental exhaustion, and I’ve come to hate the changing attitudes of people that live here that have undoubtedly come to my attention in the wake of various political upheavals. I've had periods of feeling down for weeks on end, to being so happy that thinking about this just became an after thought, always a "I should probably pop something on there."
So whilst when I first moved, I’d spend every last penny I had on eating out here, finding new places to drink or exciting things to do, I’ve come to spend all of my money on going abroad. Sacrificing my life here to spend a weekend elsewhere, in a bid to make life seem a little less shit. And when I’ve been in London, I’ve gone to my favourite 4 places, knocked back several bottles of wine and repeat.
I just sort of lost that will to explore where I live in lieu of exploring the rest of the world, and in so my “passion”, if you will, for blogging and sharing this stuff. Maybe it would be an Instagram here, or a tweet there, but no real desire to put anything into it. I kind of just existed in London, rather than actually living and enjoying it.
But then I kind of remember that having a blog titled London does not limit me to just London, it doesn’t mean I can’t share the other things I love doing, or the various other countries I’ve traveled. London is an epicentre of culture, but it also is one of the best connected cities in the world that permits for global travel...and that’s part of its beauty.
Combined with this, and the fact that in the last 3 months I’ve started to remember why I love London again. I’ve been eating out more, booked restaurants and wanted to venture out of my favourite 4 spots in favour of seeing more of the place I call home.
So welcome back, if you’re still here, and this time it’s going to be a little bit of everything!
