Things I'm giving up, Things I'm taking on

There's no denying the cliche of "new year, new me". I haven't stopped seeing it since it hit 2014 and it did get me thinking. new year new me new year, improved me. I think working on myself is a lot better than perhaps trying to be a different person, and in the words of Oscar Wilde Be yourself, everyone else is already taken. This couldn't be further from the truth, being yourself is so important and shining out from a crowd and where's the fun with following sheep? This year there are many things I will be giving up, and many things I intend to take on and start.

#1 I'm giving up: Alcohol
Although I am far from having any sort of alcohol problem, I still want to give it up completely. I hadn't drunk for 2 months before New Years Eve, and the way I felt on New Years reminded me exactly why. At the age of 18, drinking isn't really there for enjoyment but rather to get drunk, and I do not like me drunk. I don't find not drinking tough oddly, but I want to make sure it's completely banished from my system.

#2 I'm giving up: White Carbs
Yes this is a bold statement, but it's a relatively easy change to make. I first realised how bad white carbs were for you when I went to New York in the Spring, everyone we met with ate wholemeal/wholegrain...but over the course of 8 months the lessons I learnt there faded and it's only now I am reinforcing the ban on white carbs.

#3 I'm giving up: Following the crowd
This one I really want to run with and get the full effect from. I always see a trend, and instead of making it my own try and follow it - like I said where is the fun in that? One blogger who I find exceptionally inspiring to do with this is Nokhuthula from Crystal Cosmic Chic as she is not afraid to wear something out there and definitely doesn't follow the crowd.

#4 I'm giving up: Late nights
It sounds like I am becoming a health freak...I'm not. But for my age, my body isn't in great condition. From being a little chubby to constantly catching colds, I need to sort it out. Early nights are one thing which is constantly recommended and as someone who can stay up until 4am then sleep through to 1pm - I am changing this. Also the best part of the day is around 10am, it's my favourite time of the day.

#1 I'm taking up: Drinking more water
I am trying to make an effort to have the recommended 2 litres of water a day. I personally love water, especially if chilled. But drinking 2litres has always proved a challenge, but with the benefits being amazing(I doubt I need to tell you them!) it seems like a good idea.

#2 I'm taking up: Charity work
I have spent months trying to think of what to do, but this year I am determined to raise money for charity. I have ideas which could incorporate the blogging community or do it myself by doing a marathon or skydive. The possibilities  for this are huge, but I want to give something back. The charity I would ideally like to work with is http://www.mind.org.uk/ as I really think the work they do is great.

#3 I'm taking up: Media Internship
There is no denying that media is a huge part of everyday life in the 21st century, and personally something which entertains me. This year I would love to get an internship or work experience at a media agency to experience what it is like behind the scenes, instead of being just a consumer.

#4 I'm taking up: Long distance running
Call me crazy, but I've always wanted to run a marathon or half marathon. I think doing so would teach me a lot about perseverance and also help me to get fit. I'm not overly bothered about losing weight, but toning up and getting healthier for me would be great.
