Dressing for Ascot: the good, the bad and the frightful

Ascot is a time for ladies all over the country, from celebrities to the fashion elite, to get dolled up, sip champagne and have a day of luxury. The yearly event is something which is largely publicised from the fashion to the betting. It is something that people from different backgrounds, places and everything else come to enjoy. For many the betting is something which takes a lot of interest of people, but for girls like myself it is the fashion. I find myself analysing the fashion peeks, but also the fashion faux paus. Year after year there are women which dazzle in their beautiful hats and even better outfits, but there are those who just don't get it.

The Hats: the good, the bad and the frightful

I'm not one to be opposed to people being different, showing off their creativity and just being out there...but when being out there leaves you looking a little daft, it just doesn't appeal. So from flowers that look like spiders, to a bee like fish(what even is that) Ascot really has seen it all.

I don't know if it is my love for understated glamour, or just my love for these hats. After trawling through the internet looking for three perfect hats I found these. I had noticed there was more bad decisions than good regarding the hats. All three hats are glamorous yet not too in your face. The balance is absolutely brilliant.

What I would wear...

If I were to attend ascot I wouldn't want to go completely out there, but rather add a hint of colour. In this case I would go for red. The black and white contrasted with the red means I would stand out...but for the right reasons! For something which the fashion stakes are high, you don't want to be 'papped' for being worst dressed. You can never go wrong with an little black dress. Just remember in the words of Coco Chanel "A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous".

What would you wear for Ascot?

  1. I went to ascot about 3 years ago and I've got to say its not half as glamorous as they make out! I wouldn't make half the effort I made the time I went it rained and everthing (Including ladies in VERY expensive dresses) got covered in mud! It wasn't the best experience and has totally put me off but I do love looking at all the funny/amazing outfits people come up with!
